Recharge My Soul : A lifelab Video Shoot Experience

A look behind-the-scenes of the music video shoot for Recharge My Soul with Sarah Tsehaye

lifelab is proud to be a location partner for the music video "Recharge My Soul" by xeḧay. The Cologne-based band is made of members with roots from Germany, Eritrea, Sudan, Italy, Ecuador, and Ukraine, lead by lead singer Sarah Tsehaye. Their brand of soul music is inspired by rhythmic & atmospheric sounds of soul, funk, hip-hop, jazz and world music. The song 'Recharge My Soul" is from their debut album "Life Has Just Begun", released last year.

We are thrilled to have the xeḧay band in the space, especially as they are also a team with international roots. To our new followers, lifelab is a global team composed of members from Köln, Germany and Manila, Philippines. After the music video shoot, we had a chance to have a quick chat with Sarah about their lifelab experience.

"First of all I saw the website and wanted to see the location myself. I enjoyed reading the philosophy behind the location on the website. Once I met Lisa & Hannes, I could feel that the philosophy is also lived by and we could easily run through the scenarios of the shoot and check if it’s possible. There was always a solution to an idea or question."

She found the lifelab space a bright and flexible room conducive for creativity. She and the rest of the xeḧay band members were able to utilize the furniture and sound system according to their needs during the shoot. "The organization was brilliant from the very beginning till the end. What I loved most about the experience is that I felt their enthusiasm and trust during the project. All details were set prior to the shoot that means I and my team members involved were shown around more than once and everything we needed was set up beforehand. Lisa and Hannes are very professional --- that means liable, friendly, warm and authentic", she added.

Furthermore, she concluded, "Without the space I am not sure if or when the project would have been completed. We were able to shoot during lockdown in May 2021 with a hygiene concept and every single person was so happy to create and be part of the project when almost nothing was possible. So there was a special feeling and spirit with it through lifelab."

Not long after, Sarah has chosen to partner with lifelab again for a new event series, together with Gitte Wolffson. Known collectively as Queens of Now, they are an impro soul duo that does interactive concerts and improv workshops, whose hearts beat for important causes facing society today.
